I’ve got a lot of exciting things happening in the near future. Unfortunately, they’re off set by a grim prognosis. My doctors gave me less than six months to live. I wrote about it for Cure Today. I’m handling this new development as best I can. I finished 10 rounds of full brain radiation last week. The treatment helps with symptoms but doesn’t kill the cancer It’s a suck fest of a situation. Anyway, on to the good stuff.
“Sedona” is being auctioned off for Ogden’s O What A Night! gala. It’s a double exposure photo I took on medium format film last summer with a toy camera. I believe online bidding starts on Oct. 8.
I have two gallery shows coming up: this one during Atlanta Celebrates Photography and the SPE South Central Caucus Student Exhibition.
“Sedona” was also shortlisted by The Royal Photographic Society. Out of 4,000 entries, mine was whittled down to the top 300. The final 100 that are selected for the show will be announced later this month.
Belle Point Press is publishing Cold Comfort, my chapbook this fall/winter. The book is a collection of flash nonfiction and photos. I’ll announce when it’s available for pre-order. The book is all new essays that I wrote this past June.
I’ve been busier than ever with headshots and family portraits. I quit my freelance writing jobs as a way to take some obligations off my plate. With the photography work, I’m more in control of my schedule. I’m going to do these for as long as I can. It feels nice to do something normal and my doctor told me to keep engaging both sides of my brain. Doctor’s orders!
My friend Alfred’s car got stolen last night. If you can, consider donating to help him buy a new car. I met Alfred around 2008 when he was in high school. He's a rapper and has worked so hard to make it as a full time musician. I’ve written about and photographed Alfred several times over the years, most recently for Uptown Messenger in January.
